Ein Farbtupfer am ersten grauen Herbsttag - some color at the first grey day in autumn

Heute zeige ich euch ein paar Augenschmankerl. Am vergangenen Samstag war Stoffmarkt in Fürth.
Ich habe natürlich wieder eingekauft und dabei auch schon Weihnachtsgeschenke geplant.
Samstag war ein wunderschöner Herbsttag, sonnig, leicht windig und hatte eine "leiche-Jacke-anziehen-Temperatur". Herrlich. Ein anschließender Snack in einem kleinen Cafe in Fürth beendete einen schönen Nachmittag ehe ich auf die Arbeit musste.

Today I`ll show you a treasur for the eyes. Last saturday we had fabric market in Fürth.
Indeed I did some shopping and planned for christmas presents too. Saturday was a beautiful sunny autumn day, with a little bit of wind and temperatures that told you "wear-a-light-jacket-but-not-too-warm". Really really cool. After shopping I had lunch at a small cafe in Fürht until I needed to go back to work again.


Wenn ihr mal in Fürth seid, so besucht doch mal das Columbia Bakery Cafe in der Kreuzstraße in Fürth. Ein kleines nostalgisch angehauchtes Cafe mit super leckeren Bagels, Scones und was auch immer das Herz begehrt. Leider habe ich keine Fotos mit der Kamera gemacht und nur mit dem Handy. Aber Stoffmarkt und Kameratasche durch die Gegend tragen, das verträgt sich nicht. Da ist die große Kamera einfach unhandlich.

If you stay in Fürth for one time please visit the Columbian Bakery cafe in the "Kreuzstraße". A small nostalgic cafe with great bagels, scones and what ever your heart wants to have. I`m sad that I didn`t take more pictures but I only had my phone with me. The big camera wasn`t handy for fabric market.


Der anschließende Konzertdienst war sehr entspannt und um halb zwölf hatte ich dann auch Feierabend.
Der Sonntag stand ganz im Zeichen - Raus Raus Raus - Sonne tanken, Fahrrad fahren, Radler trinken und einfach gmütlich beieinander hocken:-)

After the work on our small concert which was really relaxed I finished my day at 11.30 pm. 

My sunday was completlyx filled with - go out, go out, go out - get some sun, take a bike trip, drink some beer and sit together with family and friends:-)

Und hier noch eine kleine Näherei, die in der letzten Woche entstanden ist. Dieses Täschchen habe ich einer Kollegin geschenkt, da ich während des Bahnstreiks am Mittwoch bei ihr übernachten konnte. Aber ehrlich, am liebsten hätte ich das Teil selbst behalten. Ich bin immernoch begeistert, wieviel besser gradliniges Quilting aussieht, wenn man einen Walkinfoot besitzt:-)

And here I have a small bag for you. I sewed this cute little bag last week. it was a little gift for a colleague to say thanks for having a bed for me last wednesday when the train was striking. But true - I loved this bag and gave it with a sad heard away becaus i wanted to keep it to myself. I love love love the look of a straight quilting that is made with a walking foot.

Herbstliches im Haus - autumn stuff in the house

Tata, da ist er. Endlich ist das gute Stück fertig. Ich nähe ja seit Mitte September an den schönen Blättern. Dann lagen Sie eine Woche lang herum in der ich einfach keine Zeit gefunden habe neben der Arbeit auch nur einen Stich an der Nähmaschine zu machen. Letzte Woche ist das gute Stück fertig geworden. Ich habe "ausgeliefert" und meine Mutter hat sich sehr gefreut. Die Bilder habe ich schnell auf ihrem Balkon mit dem Handy geschossen, in letzter Zeit fehlt mir einfach die Zeit für alles. Ich bin schon froh, wenn ich Abends mal ein paar Stunden mit meinem Mann verbringen kann. Eigentlich dachte ich, dass nach sechs Wochen Sommerpause alle fit und entspannt auf der Arbeit ankommen, aber irgendwie ist ständig etwas anderes, Kollegen sind krank, fallen aus und die Arbeit wird auch nicht weniger.


Tata, here he is. I finished this nice table runner. I`ve been sewing this beauty since the middle of september. Then I had no time to sew for a week - not even one stich and left the leaves laying around on my table. Last week I finished the runner. I called my mom and told her - I`m finished with this project. Can I come by for a cup of coffee? I did some shots with my phone - there was no time to bring out the camera. In the last few days I was very glad to come home and spend some left hours with my husband. I thought - six weeks of vacation would be enough for everyone to be fit and happy to work. But it is not. We have some colleges that are ill and can not work - and work doesn`t shrink in any way, the rest of us has even more to do.

Dagegen helfen sonnige Tage, an denen ich es schaffe, mir mal eine Stunde freizuschaufeln und mit meiner Mutter auf dem Balkon einen leckeren Eiskaffee aus unserem geliebten Thermomix trinken kann.
Herrlich. Wir quatschen, bewundern die Bilder meiner Schwester, die sie uns regelmäßig vom Schiff schickt und beneiden sie, wenn sie wieder aus Rhodos, Athen oder Istanbul Bilder schickt, die so urlaubshaft anmuten, dass man denkt, "He - arbeitest du auch mal was, oder machst du doch heimlich Urlaub;-)"


Sometimes I break out and take some free hours - sunny hours. I sit on the balcony with my mum drink our favorite sommer iced coffee from our thermomix:-)
I love these hours. We talk, look at the pictures my sister sends from the cruise liner and we are jealous when the pictures looks so beautiful, peaceful - just like holiday. Rhodos, Athen, Istanbul - wherever she is - sometimes i think "he you`re not working right? You just do a long secret holiday:-)"

Diesen wunderschönen Herbststoff habe ich bei meinem Stoffhändler des Vertrauens in Bamberg erstanden. Mit den verschiedenen Goldverziereungen wirkt der Stoff sehr edel und mir ist er auf den ersten blick ins Auge gesprungen.
Der helle Hintergrundstoff ist ein Basic von den Westfalenstoffen. Die orange, grünen und gelben Stoffe bei den Blättern sind selbstgefärbte Stoffe und kleine Reste, die hier einfach perfekt hineingepasst haben.
Insgesamt hat der Läufer eine Breite von 25 cm und ist ca. 1,40 m lang.

Dieses Projekt stelle ich gleich auf die Linkliste bei Emma`s Oktoberprojekt.


I bought this beautiful autumn fabric at my favorite fabricstore in Bamberg. With the small and discreet gold around the leaves the fabric looks very special and I saw it on the first look.
The beige background fabric is a basic from westphalenstoffen. The orange, green and yellow fabrics I used for the leaves are self dyed fabrics and leftovers that worked perfect for this.
The table runner is about 10 inch wide and 55 inch long.

Leseknochen, wunderschöne Geschenke - relaxing neck pillows, beautiful presents

Als ich mich gestern auf dem Weg zur Arbeit durch das World Wide Web geklickt habe, fand ich eine sehr schöne Idee bei "Frühstück bei Emma" Emma schreibt sehr viel über ihre Nähkunst und ihr Leben auf diesem Blog. Sehr empfehlenswert.
Im Oktober hat sie zu einem Projekt aufgerufen, das innerhalb von fünf Wochen dabei helfen soll, möglichst viel Stoff zu verarbeiten. Oktoberprojekt Stoffabbau hat sie es genannt. Dabei hat sie pro Woche ein Thema übergeordnet, was genäht werden soll. In der ersten Woche "Kissen, Leseknochen, Nackenrollen etc."
Nachdem ich seit 5 Wochen die Anleitung für einen Leseknochen hier ausgedruckt liegen habe, hatte ich gestern etwas Zeit und habe diesen schicken Knochen aus den Resten einer Jelly Roll von Vanessa Christensons "Simply Color"-Reihe genäht. Fertig werden sollte er eigentlich auch bereits gestern, aber ehrlich: Mir ist die Füllwatte ausgegangen. Ich muss sagen, da passt wirklich viel rein, bis dieser Knochen stabil ist.


Yesterday I surfed through the wolrd wide web on my way back home and found a nice idea at Emma`s blog "Frühstück bei Emma" (translatet: breakfirst at Emma). At her Blog Emma writes  lot about her sewing and her life. I like to read that blog.
She started a new project at october. It should help to reduce some parts of your stash and produce some helpful things. Project in october: destashing. She gave five themes for five octoberweeks to sew. Fisrt was sewing some pillows, relaxing neck pillows and more.
After laying around for five weeks I pulled out the already printed pattern for this "bone-pillow" and spend some relaxed hours at the sewing table. I used up some leftover scraps from the Jelly Roll of Vanessa Christensons "Simply Color" fabric line. I wanted to finish it yesterday but I have to be honest: I went out of Poly-fil to stuff that pillow. I was surprised how much I need to put in that bone to get it stable.

Ich hatte die türkis, grau und grünen Stoffe für den ersten Knochen ausgewählt. Der Mann hatte heute frei und durfte gleich einen neuen Sack Füllwatte holen. Frisch von der Arbeit zu Hause habe ich den Knochen fertig gestopft und vernäht. Gefällt mir sehr gut. Daher habe ich beschlossen aus den warmen rot, lila und orange Tönen ebenfalls einen Knochen zu nähen.

I choose the green, grey and turquoise for the first bone. My hubs had a free day today and I sent him to get some new Poly-fil:-) Back from work I stuffed the bone and closed the seam by hand. I have to say, i like this kind of pillow. Perfekt for reading. I want to sew another one in warm red and orange colors.

Die Streifen sind von der Jelly Roll aus dem Dezember letzten Jahres übrig, mit der ich den Quilt für meine Eltern genäht habe - Sunny Skies. Er wird übrigens fleißig benutzt.

So und jetzt habe ich Feierabend für heute.

Willkommen im Herbst - Welcome to autumn

Ich habe in den vergangenen Wochen immer wieder an diesem Projekt gearbeitet.
Die Idee der Blätter stammt von einem Läufer, den ich vor ein paar Jahren einmal genäht hatte, allerdings waren damals die Blätter viel viel kleiner. Ich habe die Blätter damals selsbt entworfen, als erstes 11 cm im Quadrat. Diese hier sind 17 cm im Quadrat.

Eigentlich ist dieses Projekt eine Auftragsarbeit. Meine Mutter hat sich einen Läufer für den Herbst für ihre Kuche gewünscht. Ich wollte nicht einfach nur herbstlichen Stoff nehmen und habe mich hingesetzt und die Blätter vergrößert. Nun ja, Mathe ist nicht gerade meine Stärke, daher habe ich zwei Probeversuche benötigt, bis das Blatt so zusammenpasste, wie ich es wollte. Jetzt passen alle Angaben und ich schreibe gerade an einem Tutorial, das euch dann zeigt, wie dieser schöne Läufer zusammengenäht wird.

Als ich die Blätter fertig hatte, wollte ich zuerst gar keinen bunten Rand annähen. Ich hatte Angst, dass das zu viel aufträgt. Aber als ich dann mal den Steifen mit den Blättern vor den Stoff gehalten habe, war diese Frage auch geklärt - Ich brauche diesen Rand.


Time by time I worked at this project in the last few weeks. The idea comes from an old leaves table runner I sewed few ears ago but the leaves were smaller. I designed the block some years ago and made them in about 4,5 " squares. Now they are 6 3/4 " squares.

This project is actually a work on order. My mum wanted to have a table runner for her kitchen table with an autumn theme. And I did not want to use just simple themed fabric. I sat down took my math and made the leaves bigger. Ok, my math is not the best and I needed two test leaves until I got everything right. Now everything workes great and I am working on a tutorial that shows you how to sew these leaves. 

When I finished the leaves and the sashing I wasn`t quite sure about the frame. I was afraid that the leaves fabric is to overwhelming for the pattern. I set it aside the finished middle part and there it was - I need this framing.

 

Die Blätter sind zum Teil mit der Paper Piecing Methode (Nähen auf Papier) und zum anderen Teil mit einer traditionellen Piecing Methode genäht.
Mehr dazu, sobald das Tutorial fertig ist.

Heute morgen hat man übrigens ganz deutlich gemerkt, dass es Herbst wird. Es schien zwar die Sonne am Anfang des Tages, aber warm wurde es heute nicht. Ich habe heute Verwandschaftstag gehabt. Und ich war falsch angezogen. Getrügt durch den schönen Sonnenschein auf mein Bett am Morgen habe ich zu Jeans und T-shirts mit offenen Halbschuhen gegriffen. Böser Fehler. Ich habe beinahe den ganzen Tag mit Decke oder einer geliehenen Fliesjacke verbracht. Brrr, war das kalt heute. Schichten, schichten, schichten wie eine Zwiebel - Willkommen im Herbst.

These leaves were sewn with traditional piecing and part of it is sewn with the Paper Piecing Methode.  I´ll tell you more when the tutorial is finished.

By the way - this morning you got the right feeling that it is really autumn. First the sun was shining at the start of the day but it wasn`t really warm today. I had a family day today. And I choose the wrong clothes. The sun tricked me to choose t-shirt and jeans and sommershoes. Bad bad choice. I spend the day feeling cold all the time and asking for some warm jackets - brr, very cold today.
