Hogwarts Quilt Top - Wie nähe ich Crazy Patchwork - How to sew crazy Patchwork

Ich mag bunte Quilt. Aber das wisst ihr ja. Bei meinem neuen Projekt habe ich aus allen Farbpaletten Stoffe gezogen. Herrlich, wie ein kleiner Regenbogen sieht das aus. Aus diesem Stapel entsteht ein bunter Quilt. Ein Themenquilt - Das Thema: Hogwarts.

I like colorful quilts. But you know that, right? With my new project, I pulled fabric from all kinde of colors. It looks like a small rainbow. With this stash of fabric I will make a themed quilt - a Hogwarts Quilt.

So sieht er fertig aus. Ein Quilt in der Größe 1,60 m x 2,20 m (Ich denke das dürfte Throwsize sein)
Es hat Spaß gemacht, dieses crazy Patchwork zu nähen. Ich habe den Quilt in vier Teilen zusammen genäht, dann erst habe ich das schwarte Logo eingesetzt.

That is ho the finished top looks like. It is about a Throwsize (63 x 84 inches). It was fun to sew this crazy patchwork. I assembled this quilt in four parts and then I added the black emblem.

Griffindor section

Wenn man so ein Crazy Patchwork näht, dann kann man nicht immer gleiche Blöcke nehmen und diese brav in Reihen anordnen. Der Trick hierbei ist, erst alle Teile auszulegen und dann anfangen, sich seinen Weg zu nähen. Eine wirkliche Anleitung gibt es hierzu nicht.

Sewing such a crazy patchwork is not just working with blocks, sew them into rows and assemble the rows. The trick is to layout all your pieces first and then start to sew your way through it. There isn`t a real pattern for it.

Slytherin section

Man schaut sich das Muster an und versucht dann möglichst viele Teile zusammen zu nähen, ehe man sie als Ganzes in Reihen oder Blöcken zusammen setzt.

Take a look at your layout and try to sew together as much as possible until you sew everything to finish this section.

Hufflepuff section

Hier kann man sehr gut sehen, was ich meine. Beim blauen Part von unten betrachtet, kann ich die erste Reihe nicht zusammen nähen, da ich ein größeres Quadrat dabei habe. Aber die zwei untersten Reihen kann ich auch nicht zusammen nähen, da in der zweiten und dritten Reihe wieder ein großes Quadrat liegt.
So nähe ich es zusammen:


Here looking at the blue one you can see what I mean. Looking on the three rows at the bottom - I can`t join the first row because of the big square in row one and two. But I can`t join row two either, because of the big square of row two and three. Thats The way to assemble it:

Zuerst die drei mittelgroßen Teile links zu einer Reihe (Teil 1), dann das Große mit dem mittelgroßen und dem Fourpatch (Teil 2), dann das nächste Große und die beiden mittelgroßen Teile (Teil 3) und als letzter Bestandteil den Ninepatch links (Teil4). Wenn alle vier Teile in der gleichen Höhe zusammen passen, dann kann ich die untersten drei Reihen als komplette Reihe zusammen nähen.

First, sew the three middle squares on the left to one row (part 1), then sew the big one with the middle one and the small fourpatch as a block (part 2), then do the same with the next big one and the two middle squares (part 3) and in the end sew the ninepatch together (part 4). After finishing all four parts you can start to join the row together.

Ravenclaw section

So verfahre ich mit allen Teilen. Die Teile, die am schwarzen Quadrat dran sind, lasse ich noch extra, diese werden anschließend mit dem schwarzen Quadrat als Reihe zusammen genäht und dann der Rest des Quilts zusammen genäht.

Crazy Patchwork macht immer Spaß, man ist frei und kann tun was man will und es kommt auch immer etwas schönes dabei raus. Das gefällt mir sehr.

Thats the way I make all my sections. I took the four parts to the side witch meet right next to the black square in the middle. They will be joined as a row before I assemble the whole quilttop.

I loved doing this crazy patchwork, you are free and can do whatever you want and there will always be a nice finish in the end. I like that.

Frohe Ostern - Happy Easter

Frohe Ostern. Ich habe diesen kleinen Osterhasenläufer erst am Freitag auf Instagram entdeckt. Den musste ich gleich nach nähen und das ging ratz fatz. Gestern Abend habe ich das Binding angenäht und heute morgen begleitete er mich bei einer gemütlichen Runde in Winterjacke auf den Balkon. Ich wollte meinen Kaffee in der Sonne genießen, doch leider war es so stürmisch und kalt, dass ich schnell wieder ins Wohnzimmer gewandert bin.

Happy Easter. I saw this cute litte bunny runner on instagram on friday. I needed to make one for myself and it was sewn together really quick. Yesterday I sewed on the binding and today I wanted to drink my coffee in the sun and watch my beautiful Easter runner on the balkony. But it was really cold - even in the sun, it was stormy and windy and cold - I went to the living room instead.

Diese kleinen Hasen bestehen eigentlich nur aus Quadraten und Rechtecken, die "gesnowballd" wurden. Eine Technik, bei der man an den Ecken weiße Quardate annäht und diese dann umbügelt. Dadurch gibt es einen Snowball-Block (Schneeball-Block).

These cute little bunnys are made out of snowballed squares and rectangles.

Das Karoquilting habe ich ebenfalls bei Instagram gesehen und ich finde, es passt hervorragend dazu.

And I love this quilting. I saw this on instagram too and I loved it for this runner.

Ein kleiner Spaziergang durch den Ort und die Nachbarorte musste trotz Wind und Kälte sein. Schließlich gibt es derzeit soo viele schöne Osterbrunnen zu bewundern.

Even though it was really cold and windy - we needed to walk around the village, visit the nice decoratet easter fountains. I love it - when they decorate everything so beautiful.
 

Und Osterglocken. Ich finde die ja echt super schön, leider halten sie bei mir nie lange, da ich keinen grünen Daumen habe. Naja, ich hab meine Stärken auch wo anders:-)

Frohe Ostern und ein paar schöne Feiertage euch.

And these flowers. I like to have those jonquils at home, but they will not survive that long - I do not have a green thumb (Is this really a saying in english?). But well, everybody has its own strenght.

Bernina Medaillon QAL: Zwei Medaillon Quilts wachsen - two medaillon quilts are growing

Just in time - genau richtig, wenn am Montag die nächste Runde auf dem Bernina Blog erscheint und ich bin fertig mit meinen zweimal zweite Runde nähen. Dieses Mal - Kreise. Für einen Quilt 36 Kreise ausschneiden, nähen, bügel und applizieren - ich hab das zweimal gemacht. Und wirklich, ich finde sie beide richtig schön. Das wird eine schwere Entscheidung, welchen der beiden ich behalten werde.

Just in time - I finished both second rounds of my two medaillons when on monday the next round will be published. This time it was all around circles. For one quilt you needed 36 circles cut, sewed, ironed and appliquéd - I made it twice. And more problems - I like them both. This will be a hard decision on which I will keep for myself.

Sowohl der Medaillon mit dem dunklen Hintergrund, als auch der weiße - beide haben eine ganz eigene Ausstrahlung.

Even the medaillon with the dark background as the one with the white one - both have their own emissions.

Einen Unterschied - neben der Farbgebung - gibt es bei den beiden hier. Beim weißen Medaillon bin ich bei der Kreismethode nach der Anleitung von Andrea geblieben - eine wirklich gute Art, diese Kreise herzustellen und zu applizieren. Bei dem dunklen Zentrum habe ich meine eigene Methode für die etwas Fauleren unter uns genutzt und konnte mir dadurch ca. 2 Stunden an Arbeit sparen - nämlich das applizieren der Kreise. Ich brauchte nur das Bügeleisen und die Kreise saßen an Ort und Stelle und können beim Quilten am Ende fixiert werden.

There is one difference - next to color choices. I went with the pattern of Andrea on the white one - a great way to sew circles and appliqué. With the dark one I used my methode for lazy sewers and saved about two hours of appliqué time. I just needed the iron and the circles were fixed and can be sewn on at the end with special quilting.

Gekreisel - circelirium - a Tutorial

Circelirium - klingt wie Delirium. Im Moment bin ich im Kreisfieber. Ja, der Bernina Medaillon Quilt Along hat mich voll in Beschlag genommen. Ich habe in den letzten Tagen Kreise geschnitten, genäht, gezogen, gebügelt und aufgenäht. Ich drehe mich quasi schon im Kreis. Aber auf eine schöne Art und Weise. Und es geht weiter. 36 Kreise sind schon fertig, die zweite Runde eines meiner Medaillon Quilts sozusagen, die zweite folgt zugleich.

Ich kenne inzwischen ja mehrere Methoden Kreise zu nähen. Einmal die von Andrea auf dem Bernina Blog beschriebene und eine, bei der man quasi aufgebügelbares Vlies als Kreisvorlage nimmt und darüber dann den Kreis wendet. Ich finde beide Methoden funktionieren gut. Die Vlieseinnähsache hat einen entscheidenden Vorteil: man kann den Kreis anschließend aufbügeln.

Wer sich für das Kreisenähen begeistern möchte, hier ein kleines Tutorial, wie die Vliesmethode funktioniert.

Circelirium - sounds like delirium. At the moment I am in a circle fever. Yes, Bernina Medaillon Quilt took all over here. I did cut, sew, push, ironed and apliquéd so many circles in the last days, I can`t tell. And I keep on circeling. I finished the second round of my first medaillon and I am working on another 36 circles for the second.

I know some methodes to sew circles. The one of Andrea shown on the Bernina Blog and the one which uses sticky freezerpaper to cheat a bit. I think both methods work great. A benefit for working with freezerpaper: you can iron the circles on.

If you want to try this out - a little tutorial for you.

Ihr braucht:
1 Stück Stoff
1 Kreisvorlage
1 Aufbügelbares Flies (Eine Seite aufbügelbar reicht völlig aus)
1 Stift

So gehts:

You need:
1 piece of fabric
1 circle shape
1 piece of freezerpaper (sticky one one side is enough)
1 pencil

That`s how it works:

Als Erstes zeichnen wir mit unserer Kreisvorlage die Originalgröße unseres Kreises auf die nichthaftende Seite des Flieses. Grob ausschneiden (Platz für die Nahtzugabe lassen)

First, draw the real size of your circle on the non sticky side of the freezingpaper. Cut it out and leave space for seam allowance.

Anschließend legen wir das Flies mit der "KlebeSeite" (Die Seite, die beim Bügeln kleben bleibt) rechts auf rechts (Klebeseite auf die rechte Stoffseite) auf den Stoff.

Now lay your freezing paper onto the right side of the fabric, sticky side down.
 

Jetzt kommt die Nähmaschine zum Einsatz. Wir nähen einmal auf der gezeichneten Linie den Kreis nach und vernähen am Ende beim Schließen der Naht unseren Faden.

Off to the sewing mashine. We sew on the drawn line around and in the end we secure our stitches when we close the circle.

Jetzt schneiden wir den Kreis einmal grob aus und lassen dabei ca. 0,5 cm Nahtzugabe stehen.

Now cut around and leave about a quarter inch seam allowance.

Diese schneien wir leicht ein, damit sich die Nahtzugabe leicht in den Kreis einfügt - Nicht in die Naht schneiden.

We cut into these to let the seam allowance fabric get smoothly into that circle - do not cut into your seam.

Nun heben wir das Vlies ein wenig an und machen einen kleinen Schnitt hinein.

Now we lift up the freezer paper a bit and make a small hole in it.

Durch dieses Loch im Vlies wenden wir den Kreis und mit einem abgerundeten Ende eines Stiftes oder Pinsel fahren wir an der Naht entlang und glätten dabei die Naht. Wenn ihr alles richtig gemacht habt, habt ihr nun die "Klebeseite" des Flieses außen und die rechte Stoffseite ebenfalls:-)

We turn right sides out through that hole in the freezer paper and work out the shape of our circle with the end of a pensil or a brush. Fingerpress the seam. You can see if you have done everything right, when the sticky side of the freezing paper and the right side of the fabric are outside of the circle.

Durch "Fingerbügeln" fixieren wir die Form, ehe wir dann anschließend den Kreis auf die gewünschte Stelle aufbügeln.

Fingerpressing helps to control the shape until you iron it onto your background fabric.
 

Das Aufnähen kann nun auch bis zum quilten warten und muss nicht extra apliziert werden, da es durchs aufbügeln bereits fixiert ist. Allerdings sollte man sich vorher überlegen, kann ich den ganzen Quilt durch meine Hausmaschine quilten und funktioniert das auch gut - oder gehe ich zu einer Longarm. Bei der kleinen Nähmaschine zu Hause geht das auch, aber es geht ganz schön in die Arme, bis man einen detailreichen Quilt komplett gequiltet hat.

Now you have time to wait until you sew your circle down because it will stick on the quilt until you come to quilting. BUT you should think about quilting or apliqué it if you are working on your domestic mashine at home. It is hard to quilt a quilt with many details on a small mashine - that is really hard work. Or you just go to a longarm. It will work on your home mashine, too but as I said - hard work.

Das kleine Loch im aufbügelbaren Flies stört übrigens keinen, da es ja unter dem Stoff verschwindet.

That small hole in the freezer paper is nothing to worry about. It will disappear underneath the circle fabric.
