Heute war ein Farbtag. Man könnte sagen ich bin kopfüber in den Farbtopf gefallen:-)
Ich habe heute mal wieder gebatikt und gefärbt bis kein Stoff mehr da war. Zehn Meter weißen Baumwollstoff habe ich dazu am Samstag bereits gekauft, in die gewünschten Größen zugeschnitten und vorgewaschen. Die Dame im Stoffladen hat mich etwas fragend angesehen, als ich 10 Meter weiße Baumwolle gekauft habe. Ich werde wohl mal einen Probestoff dort vorbei bringen, damit sie sieht, was ich damit angestellt habe:-)

I did some batiks today and dyed until there was no more white fabric. I bought ten meters of white cotton fabric, cut it into my wish-sizes and pre-washed it. The old Lady at the fabric store wondered about ten meters of white fabric. I think I need to show her what I did to the white fabric:-)
Als ersten habe ich allen Stoffstücke in denen ich das typische Batikmuster wollte solche Stoffraupen eingebunden. Dabei nimmt man den Stoff, zieht ihn leicht über den Finger und wickelt, je nach Wunsch Wolle oder Paketband drum herum. Dabei möglichst fest ziehen, da sonst die Farbe an dieser Stelle an den Stoff kommt. Normalerweise bleibt die umwickelte Stelle weiß, oder nur sehr blass gefärbt in der Farbe.
First of all I bound fabric larvals into the fabric. You take the fabric, put it over your Finger an pull of the top. Then you fix it with some old whool or any kind of string you want to. You should fix it good because there are white rings where the whool or string stays when you are dyeing. Normally it stays white, but it can be a lighter dyed color.
Dann wird erst einmal grundgefärbt. Alles ab in den Eimer. Mit Simplicol schätze ich immer die Wassermenge, da diese Farben eher für die Waschmaschine sind, aber sie funktionieren auch im Eimer super.
Then comes the first dyeing. I put everything in buckets. Simplicol is the dyeing color I use.
Möchte man Farbverläufe haben, hängt man nach der Grundfärbung den Bereich ins Farbbad, der die andere Farbe bekommen soll. Wichtig: Immer Hell nach Dunkel arbeiten. Andersrum geht`s nicht. Auf dem rechten Bild habe ich experimentiert. Ich habe eine Malerfolie ausgelegt und mit Schöpfern mein ganz eigenes Muster reingefärbt. Leider kommen bei dieser Methode nur die dunklen Farben nach dem Fixierungswaschgang wirklich zur Geltung.
If you want to blend the colors you just hang the part of fabric into the next color bath that should get the other color. Very important: Light comes first. On the right picture you see my experiment. I just put the color on with ladles on the fabric where I want it. Sadly the lighter colors got lost within the wash to fix it.
Dieses gelbe Stück habe ich nicht bearbeitet. Die Marmorierung und unregelmäßige Färbung entsteht, wenn man den Stoff in das Farbbad legt und dann einfach liegen lässt. Nicht regelmäßig bewegen, vielleicht ein bis zweimal wenden, sonst aber einfach ignorieren. Raus aus dem Farbbad, ab in die Waschmaschine und über das Muster freuen. Ebenso habe ich es unten gemacht. Da dieses Stück aber drei Meter lang ist habe ich diese Farbe ausschließlich für diesen Stoff genommen.
The yellow piece isn`t pre-formed. The marbling comes automatic when you put the fabric into the color bath and dosen`t move it any more. After one or two hours you pull it out and wash-fix it with the machine. Then you can be happy about the marbling. The same was done on the fabric on the picture below. This piece is three meters long and so I used a complete pack color only for this piece.
Bei diesem Stück ist die grüne Ecke zwangsweise entstanden. Ich hatte das Teil aus Versehen mit dem grünen Handschuh angefasst und hatte an dieser Ecke grüne Fingerabdrücke. Blöd, aber dann habe ich einfach diese Ecke eingefärbt.
At this last thing I made a small mistake. I took the light fabric with my green glove. It leaves bad tips on it, so I dyed this part with green. Nobody knows:-)
