Sonntage - Sundays

I sewed a lot in the last few days. I needed somthing diffrent to my other projects and I took some leftover Charms and a nice fabric of Westphalen Stoffe and made this cute little bag. Actually the bag should be for me. But somehow it turned out to small. I didn`t had the right sizes and now the carry ons are to short and the bag to small. More for a little girl than me. I am going to give it away as a present. But I did a lot of quilting with this bag. I did straight line quilting around the patched squares . . .

. . . den Verschluss ebenfalls mit geraden Linien gequiltet . . .

. . . quilted the closing strip with straight lines, too . . .

. . . and made bubbles on the straps.
Even with the wrong size, I think it turned out really nice. Think I am going to find a lucky owner.

During the really crazy weather at the weekend, we had been lucky here with having not to heavy thunderstorms. Today we had yummy strawberry cake with cream, sitting in the sun on the balkony enjoying a nice day. And now, sitting here, blogging, it is noisy and stormy outside.

Of course I did made some progress with my La Passion. That is the last big hexagon and then we will see more. Sewing in the sun is just great.

Die Sache mit dem alt werden... - the thing of getting old

- W     A     S     ?
Was kommt dann wohl im nächsten Jahrzehnt?

..., it is not easy. I admit - I am definitly to young to complain and to speak about getting old, BUT... Some days ago I was at the eye specialist and he gave me a paper and said "Gratulations, you need glases." W    H    A    T    ?
First I thought he is making a joke. I`m well known as eagle eye and I took the brave place of a non glases wearing person in my family for myself. Hmm, it is starting right now, right? Not even thirty and I need glases. What will come with the next ten years? Hearing Aid? Walking stick? Strairs elevat - Ok, I stop it. But I have to say, it is not too bad. I can see better with glases, no lie, what do you think about that? But there are some thought though. Like "Am I using my diopter setup with my ditigal camera?" Or do I make pictures with m glases on, but then I need to clean glases all the time because I always touch the glas when I put up my camera. Even making the pictures some minutes ago, I hit the glas . So please do not judge me for not so perfect pictures in the next time. I need some time to get my glases/camera setup done perfectly:-)

By the way, next to getting older - I sewed a bit. This basket with the flowers for example. But sadly it turned out toooo big, maybe a hint to get some glases? I do not know.

My hexagon quilt is growing. Slowly but it grows. I am working with the third round of it. Like I estimate my speed I think I will sew the next one and a half year for tis round until the corners will start. But it grows. Six complete diamonds are ready, only one row is missing there and I only need to make two more big hexagons. Then there will be a lot of background and flowers for that round and to finish the round there will be FIVE!!!! - oh my god, five rounds boarders. Thinking about the boarders I feel like Throwing the stuff in the next corner and leave it alone. I hate, hate, hate boarders. I need to do them in pieces, to make them interesting to get all five boarders done. Phu, five...

For my train time I have a new project. I do a lot of urban crochet at the moment for a project at home. More will come but I won`t tell to much.

Lovly greetings and have fun beeing creativ.

crazy diamonds - another finished quilt

Wow.

Wow, I am happy. Finally finished this baby. I looked up in the dates of my pictures of this quilt. I startet sewing it in january 2012! It was my first big project from one german patchwork magazin published 2011. The whole quilt is made by using the paper-piecing-methode. Each block is made out of a small stripe through the middle and two triangles. Joining four blocks - a diamant appears. There were a lot of blocks to sew. The sewing was really fast and even the trimming and sewing the top together.
BUT...

... then there was the question "Wow, how should I quilt it" I had my small beginnermashine from a disconter. And this was a big challenge I didn`t want to start yet. I didn`t found courage to start. I put the quilt in a closet. About two years later, I started my first quilting with straight line quilting to echoe the diamants. To be honest - It looked sooooooo bad. I did not like it. And I used the wrong batting.

I ripped off the quilting and stored it againg with the self dyed backing. There it took a nap until Christmas this year. My husband always aksed - when do you finish our quilt? Do not start the next project until this is done - he was right. One day I bought coloured thread.

Then I ironed everything, bought the right batting, cleaned up my kitchen and put out half of my furniture. I basted the quilt with about 150 needles to fix it. Then I put it up and hang it on the door of my sewing room. I didn`t wanted to quilt it yet. I had a lot of respect doing this.

Gut Ding will Weile haben.

About one and a half month later, I was so pissed of to have such a big unfinished project hanging over the door - I started quilting. No matter how it will look, I am going to quilt this - I started. It was my first big project on my Bernins to quilt with a meandering crazy free motion quilting that wasn`t straight line quilting. I needed about two and a half polls of thread. Then I was finished. I tell you. It was so hard, harder that two hours of cardio training. I trimmed the edges down and finished the open sides and put it back on the door.  Sometimes good things just needs time. I thought about the right binding about one and a half month again and then I saw the "Indian Summer" from Westphalen Stoffe (Fabric producer in Germany) - I finished the quilt with the binding.

Beeing very snowy and cold this week, we snuggled a lot under this quilt. The quilt size is about 60 x 83 inches. The next bed quilt will be taller. Then we do not have to fight for the quilt to snuggle at night:-)

Have a nice evening.

Flower Power

Welcome to springtime. Ok, I have no idea who ordered this springday today - and I do not know what he was thinking by ordering it. Snow, snow rain, rain, sunshine - everything changing every minute and hour and it all started this morning. But with bad weather, time for sewing. I made this cute door wreath with the pattern from "Love Patchwork and Quilting" Magazin nr. 10. Now he shouts out "spring" to every visitor of my flat at the door and took the place of my paper wreath from christmas.

Ring around is the pattern and you can easily use a wreath of styropor as the basic form for the wreath. This is fun to make.

You just need some patience to wrapp around this long long band of fabric. It can become crazy if you do not watch it and let it behave.

And working with styropor as the basic form is easy to trick with some pins on the wreath. That is really cool.

The next thing is to put on the long long long binding on this big quil. I quilted it on my Bernina 350 PE in february and until now it took a nap in my closet. Now off to sew on the binding.

Schönen Nähtag euch allen.

Happy Sewing day to everyone.
