Das war ein toller Tag. Vergangenen Samstag habe ich bei einer Dame eine kleine Anweisung und Übungszeit an einer Bernina Q24 Longarm Quilting Maschine erhalten. Das macht richtig Spaß. Ich hatte dieses kleine Quilttop fertig, ein Minisampler, den ich mal aus ein paar Probeblöcken eines Block of the Month Sew Along genäht hatte. Mit einem kleinen sashing zwischen den Blöcken und einem schönen Rahmen außen rum, hatte ich dieses Top seit 1 Jahr bei mir rumliegen. Mal wieder unschlüssig wie ich das quilten soll. Da kam mir die Gelegenheit prima entgegen.
It was a great day. Last saturday I was sewing at a womans house with her Bernina Q 24 longarm quilting mashine. I had a nice time, learning how to use the mashine and to try some stiches. This is really fun. At home I had this cute little top laying around. A mini sampler quilt I made several month ago to try some new block pattern of a block of the month sew along. I sashed the blocks with a 2,5 inch strip and added a nice boarder aprox. 4 inches. I was waiting in my box nearly a year and I didn`t knew how to quilt it. Best chance to try the mashine.
Die Bernina Q 24 ist die Longarmmaschine des Schweizer Nähmaschinenherstellers. Hier aufgebaut mit dem 3,50 m großen Rahmen. Tolles Teil. Nachdem ich in den USA auf der Messe bereits erste "Fahrstunden" an einer Handy Quilter Avanté machen durfte, hatte ich den direkten Vergleich zur Bernina. Ich bin begeistert. Bis zur Anschaffung einer eigenen Longarm wird es noch etwas dauern - größere Wohnung mit eigenem, großem Nähbereich, mehr sparen . . . Solange habe ich aber die Möglichkeit Nähzeit zu mieten. Für mich eine tolle Gelegenheit.
The Bernina Q 24 it the longarm of the producer of sewing mahines in swizerland. Here this one is build up with the 3,50 m frame. Great mashine. After my first sewing experience with the Handy Quilter Avanté in the US I can compare these two mashines. I love it. Until I can buy my own bernina Longarm it takes some time - finding a bigger flat/house with my own big sewing space, saving more money . . . But until then I can rent time to sew. Perfect for me and a great possibility.
Ich konnte vergangenen Samstag mich nicht nur im quilten von regelmäßigen swirls und flames üben, nein, ich habe auch rulerwork kennengelernt. Mit der normalen kleinen Bernina kann man ja prima im Nahtschatten quilten, dafür braucht man nur den Obertransportfuß. Mit einer Longarm kommt ein extra Nähtisch, den man unter das Top spannt dazu und Lineale um gleichmäßige Muster zu erschaffen. Macht richtig Spaß. Bei diesem kleinen Top sicher nicht so notwendig, aber bei größeren Quilts tut man sich auf der kleinen Maschine zu Hause schon schwerer, ordentlich im Nahtschatten zu quilten. Immerhin muss man dazu ja erstmal eine Menge, Menge, Menge Stoff durch die Maschine quetschen. Longarm - hier gehört etwas Übung dazu und man bekommt schöne grade Nähte hin. Macht einfach Spaß.
Last saturday there weren`t only swirls and flames no, I did some rulerwork to. It is easy to quilt a stitch in the ditch seam with a small Bernina and a walking foot, I know. But with a longarm, it is easier to do that on bigger projects. You need a special "sewing table" underneath the quilttop and some special rulers to get great straight lines. This makes really fun. With such a small quilt not to hard and necessary but having a bigger quilttop this comes really handy. Stitching in the ditch on a regular, small mashine at home you have to move a lot, lot, lot of fabric through your mashine. With a longarm, you just need some praticse.
Hier das fertige Stück. Im Original sieht das noch besser aus. Dazu ein hübsches Binding und zack ist so ein kleiner Babyquilt fertig. Fehlt nur noch das Baby:-) Haha, im Bekanntenkreis sind ja ein paar im Anmarsch, vielleicht findet sich da der ein oder andere Abnehmer, wer weiß. Bis dahin liegt er auf dem Sofa und ich falte ihn immer wieder staunend auf. Staunend darüber, dass er trotz Übungsstück richtig schön geworden ist.
Here is it - the finished quilt. It looks way better in original. I added the two colored binding and finished that lovely baby quilt. Only the Baby is missing - Haha. there will be some at my friends soon, I think I will find someone that will like and love this beauty. Until then, it is laying on the couch and I open it up to look a lot of times. Proud it came out so nice even it was just a small quilt for pratice.
Alle weißen flächen habe ich mit swirls, also kleinen Wirbeln gequilted - immer diese Übersetzungsprobleme:-)

So mancher swirl ist im Eifer des Gefechts dann doch eher ein doodling geworden.

Das Label darf natürlich auch nicht fehlen:-)

In das weiße Quadrat wollte ich keine swirls machen, also wurde es eine Art Blüte mit Blättern, oder so :-) Die habe ich allerdings zu Hause auf meiner kleinen Bernina 350 QE gequiltet.
(Ich habe übrigens keinen BSR-Fuß, das ist reine Übungssache:-))
I didn`t want to quilt swirls in this small white square I quilted kind of a flower with leafes in it. But this one is quilted at home with my small Bernina 350 QE. (By the way, I do not have a BSR-Foot, just practice)

Das war von mir heute. Nun suche ich mir ein kühles Plätzchen und versuche nicht dahinzuschmelzen, während ich 7 Meter Stoff bügle. Naja, vielleicht mache ich das auch lieber erst morgen oder Montag, wenn es nicht mehr 33 Grad hat.

That`s it from me today. Now I`m looking for a cold place and try not to melt away. I need to iron 7 meter prewashed new fabric. Ok, maybe I do that tomorrow or monday, when there aren´t 33 degree celsius anymore.
